Arbroath suffered a third consecutive Championship defeat, losing 2-0 to Inverness Caledonian Thistle on Saturday. The result leaves the Red Lichties eighth in the table with 11 points from 11 games, now 12 points adrift of leaders Stenhousemuir. Their record of three wins and two draws from those 11 games has been undermined by a recent run of one win and four losses in their last five, leaving them with a goal difference of minus ten after scoring just seven times while conceding 17.

Two goals in three first-half minutes decided the contest. MacLeod opened the scoring for the hosts in the 39th minute, before Bavidge doubled the advantage just before the break, finishing from a pass by Allan. Arbroath made a change at half-time, sending on Dewar for Beadling. This latest loss followed a 2-1 home defeat to Morton the previous Saturday, where an own goal proved costly, and a 3-0 loss at Partick Thistle.

McKenna was shown a yellow card midway through the second half as the visitors struggled to create clear chances. Inverness had a chance to extend their lead on the hour mark, but Allan saw his penalty saved.

The defeat extends a difficult run for Arbroath, whose recent fixtures have yielded just one win in their last five matches. They have now lost their last three, conceding seven goals without reply in that sequence. Their next challenge is an away trip to face fifth-placed Livingston on Saturday, 24 October. The sides last met in August, with Arbroath securing a 1-0 victory at Gayfield.
