Arbroath FC lost 2-1 to Greenock Morton in a chaotic Championship match at Gayfield on Saturday. The game was defined by two early red cards for the home side and a lengthy suspension of play due to a medical emergency in the stands.

Scott Constable was sent off in the ninth minute for a foul on Grant Gillespie inside the box, with Gillespie converting the resulting penalty. Christopher Cupps followed him for an early bath in the 28th minute for a similar challenge, forcing manager Kerr Robertson to replace himself with Phil Croker shortly after. Play was then halted for almost an hour shortly before half-time as medical staff attended to a supporter who had taken unwell.

Callum Sandilands forced Charlie Dewar into an own goal early in the second half to double Morton's lead. Jacob MacIntyre pulled one back for the ten-man Lichties just two minutes later, finishing from a Michael McKenna assist, but a comeback proved beyond them.

The defeat leaves Arbroath eighth in the Championship with 11 points from 10 games, having lost four of their last five. Their next challenge is a trip to face fifth-placed Inverness Caledonian Thistle on Saturday, 17 October.
