Arbroath secured a valuable three points with a 2-1 home win over Queen's Park at Gayfield Park. The victory lifts them to sixth place in the Scottish Championship standings, a position built on a solid first-half display and a resilient finish.
Andy Winter opened the scoring after 11 minutes, finishing a swift counter-attack that started from a free-kick won by Todorov. The hosts doubled their advantage just before the interval when Rudio Molotnikov found the net, with Jacob McIntyre providing the assist. Queen's Park pulled a goal back in the 74th minute through Oliver Fisher, but Arbroath held firm under late pressure to see out the win.
McAdams stands firm
Goalkeeper Aiden McAdams was instrumental in preserving the lead, making a series of important stops. His most notable intervention was an unorthodox save to deny a close-range effort, which proved key. The defensive unit, which saw Ricki Lamie operating at left-back and Ben Brannan on the right, stood firm against sustained possession from the visitors in the second period.
For Queen's Park, the defeat was compounded by a mounting injuries list that forced manager Sean Crighton into several changes. They created chances, with Lewis Stewart firing over on the break and Michael Ruth having a goal disallowed for a tight offside call, but they could not find an equaliser.
The result gives Arbroath 11 points from their opening eight league matches, moving them into the top half of the table. Their recent form shows two wins, a draw, and two losses from the last five outings. Youngster Oliver Fisher marked his first league start for Queen's Park by scoring their consolation goal. Fisher said. Aidan McAdams described the moment leading to it, noting he had blocked an initial shot with his feet before the ball broke to Fisher for a composed finish.
Arbroath's next challenge is an away match against Partick Thistle on October 3, a fixture that will test their improving form. The team's overall stats for the season now show a positive goal difference.
